MHS ALUMNI STORIES 2010 6th in a 10 Part Series 1950 and 1955 Honor Years A YEARBOOK WAS PUBLISHED The Class of 1950 published the FIRST yearbook since the Class of 1939!!!!!! That’s good news. Sad news is that the only other yearbook published in the 1950’s was the Class of 1952. Thereafter the records lay dormant until the 1960’s when Yearbooks again became available to record school history. This 1950 Yearbook is solid black and a Tiger Head is embossed on the cover; it is named “The Tiger”. It was donated to this Historian by Bob and Patty Bratton. In turn, the Editorial Staff dedicated this volume to Miss Nina Davis, long time Mangum school teacher. It can also be viewed at the Old Greer County Museum. The Tiger staff included: Connie Weese, June McArthur, Lee Wayne Morris, Paul Goode, Dale Bryant, Richard White, Wanda Sue Rush, Alma Lue Rush, H. C. Anglin, Darrell Price, Scotty Coffman, Bert Kirk, Winona Wilhite. Yearbook sponsor was Miss Minnie Lee Sumrow. This is a wonderful piece of history, well planned and indexed covering seventh grade through twelfth. All extra curricular clubs and activities are also included. There was also a Tiger Staff-School Newspaper published in 1950 supervised by Circulation Managers, Henry Warlick, Charles Worthen and Miss Johnnie Wilburn. Headline news: A 1950 MHS graduate, Jim Scivally, would become City Manager according to The Mangum Star, September 13, 1971. He was welcomed to the job by Mayor Forrest Wright (MHS 1934) grad.
